IMPROVE AIR QUALITY IN AND AROUND YOUR HOME

All homes have flaws and imperfections. Walls often have dents, dings, and marks from the use of your home over time. Having your home’s interior painted removes those imperfections and can make your home look refreshed and clean.

A new paint color for your interior can also modernize your home. To bring your home up to date, take a look at popular colors like Naval, and Coral Clay, both by Sherwin Williams. Dark blues, sage greens, and bright jewel tones have hit the top of the list for many homeowners and home décor color enthusiasts and have set the tone for paint colors for the near future.

Paint quality has improved greatly over the last few decades. Thanks to technology and a growing interest in our health, many interior paints now are made with low or zero VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). Volatile Organic Compounds are “Carbon-containing substances that easily become vapors or gasses.” (Green Home Guide.) Over time, not just during the paint drying, these substances release into the atmosphere and can cause respiratory and health problems. Low- and no-VOC paints release less or no gasses into your home.

If you or your loved ones have allergies, asthma, or are sensitive to chemicals, this is a huge benefit and a great option for your home. A fresh coat of paint also keeps dust and other allergens to a minimum which will improve your home’s air quality even more.

WHEN SHOULD THE ROOF OF A HOUSE BE REPLACED?

There are many people who forget the fact that changing the roof of a house from time to time is necessary.

It is one of the most important elements of a house and a home, that is why there is a saying about having a roof over the head; however, many times we can spend years without thinking that it is necessary to make a roof remodeling, until it starts to show deterioration that could become dangerous.

It should be noted that the roof of a house will always show deterioration in a uniform manner, since it is all installed at the same time and is exposed to the same elements. Therefore, if you have already noticed a leak, a crack or wear; sometimes a simple repair to cover this small imperfection will not be enough. Here we talk about all the aspects to consider when replacing the roof of a house and what are the signs.

Waiting until problems start to become obvious to change the roof of a house can be a big mistake. As we mentioned, it deteriorates evenly, so a leak will continue to expand and you'll likely notice more appearing in a short time. This can become a big expense in the short term, so making a change at the right time is of utmost importance.

The time in which a home's roof should be replaced varies depending on the material that was used to build it. Generally speaking, asphalt shingle roofs need to be replaced every 20 to 25 years. On the other hand, wood shingle roofs need to be replaced between 20 and 30 years. Finally, slate, copper and tile roofs can last the longest without deteriorating, calling for a change every 100 years or more.

DOUBLE GLAZED WINDOWS AND THEIR ADVANTAGES

Double glazing is composed of two or more sheets of glass separated by a dehydrated air or gas chamber, which offers a much more effective thermal and acoustic insulation than a single glazing or other window system.

It is not only the panes of glass in the double glazing that influence the insulation we want to obtain, but also the thickness of the air chamber, which is also the ultimate solution to prevent noise.

In general, the greater the thickness of the space between the two, the greater the insulation, and therefore the greater the energy efficiency and savings.

The benefits of double glazing:

-Savings. One of the most attractive advantages of this type of glazing is the savings in energy costs. Thanks to the airtight construction of these windows, thermal insulation is created that reduces the flow of incoming and outgoing heat. As a result, we use less energy to heat or cool a room, and therefore spend less on heating.

-Acoustic insulation. As mentioned above, double-glazed windows also improve sound insulation by creating a thicker barrier between the inside and outside of the home.

-Security. Given the thickness and strength of double-glazed windows, the panes are harder to break and therefore become more effective against break-ins and vandalism. This is because these panes are sealed more tightly than other types of windows.

-Reduction of condensation and humidity. Moisture on warm surfaces creates small droplets that freeze like ice and can create a lower thermal sensation in rooms. With double glazing, the air between the two layers of glass prevents condensation from building up by blocking moisture in cold climates.

-Reduced damage from excessive sunlight. Double glazing reduces the amount of sun and heat entering rooms, this also makes the impact of light on furniture, paint, carpets and other decorative objects exposed to natural light at risk of fading.

WHY UPGRADE TO INSULATED WINDOWS?

Summer is starting and the heat sometimes becomes unbearable.

The easiest thing to do is to turn on the fan or turn on our air conditioners... but how much does it cost to have the air conditioner running all day? That is a question we should ask ourselves to reduce expenses this summer. Having good windows with insulating characteristics will help us to prevent the sun's rays that reach the inside of our home through the glass of the windows, causing a feeling of heat above the temperature of the room. It also happens that when the sun falls directly on the window glass, it heats up and becomes a kind of "radiator" that if we touch it we notice, and emits that heat into the room.

Now we think about the heat... but winter will come. If in winter you find it hard to get out of bed in the morning because the heating stopped working hours ago and the house is cold, maybe it is because your windows do not insulate properly. Windows with reinforced insulation (ATR) are the best solution, they will maintain the interior temperature better even after the heating has been turned off, and that is comfort, convenience and savings in the medium and long term.

We can find insulating windows that besides protecting from cold, heat and noise, give us an extra guarantee of security, offering a guaranteed protection of people and goods.

RENOVATE OR BUILD YOUR HOME?

Renovating a house is a very profitable alternative, although depending on the characteristics of the remodeling, tearing down and rebuilding a house from scratch can be cheaper and better.

Before making a decision, it is essential to consider what you and your family need from a home and if those needs can be covered with a reform. If you want to dramatically expand your square footage, make changes to every room, or design a custom home, you may want to consider tearing down and rebuilding your home. If you only plan to remodel your basement into useful space, expand your kitchen, or add a second story, renovating your home may be the cheapest and smartest choice.

Whether due to the fact that the family is growing and it is necessary to have more rooms or even due to an increase in income. Renovating a house, buying a new one or tearing it down and building it from scratch will always be a good option. However, these two options are very different in terms of cost and lifestyle impact and depend on many factors.

4 TYPES OF ROOFING YOU SHOULD CONSIDER

Most homeowners in the U.S. choose asphalt shingles because they are of the easiest to find, most affordable and versatile types of roofing. The most durable types of roofing are slate and clay tiles but they’re more expensive than materials like metal or wood. Functional roofing alternatives like green roofs and solar shingles are among the most expensive types.

Replacing an old roof is one of the best and most profitable ways to invest in a home. Choose the type of roof that suits your home, climate and budget and make sure if you're installing a new roof to find the right roofing contractor for you

 Metal Roofing

Metal roofing feels like a modern choice, but they've been around since the 1800s. Metal sheets and shingles continue to be a popular choice today because materials like aluminum and zinc are affordable, easy to transport, low-maintenance and beautiful—even with age.

 Wood Roofing

Wood roofing pairs well with charming Cape Cod cottages, cozy Craftsman and Tudor-style homes. They start sandy brown and silver with age. Wood roofs can last 50 years in dry climates but need to be treated in fire-prone areas like California. Wet climates, such as the East Coast go through wood roofing more quickly due to water damage.

 Slate Roofing

Slate is one of the most durable types of roofing material and is similar in cost to clay tiles, ranging from $9 to $20 per square foot. This material can last 50 to 200 years. In addition to being fireproof and resistant to high winds and extreme temperatures, it is also resistant to impact from hail and small branches.

 Shingles (Asphalt, Fiberglass, Composite)

Almost 90% of homes in the US use composite asphalt shingles because they’re affordable, durable and easy to install. Asphalt shingles only cost $1.50 to $5.50 per square foot or roughly $8,000 per roof installation. They can last up to 30 years and can be recycled to make pavement.

Tips for remodeling a house

Before starting any remodeling, analyze the type of land and the type of climate where the property is located. In cold climates one of the most recurrent problems is the humidity, on the other hand, in hot climates it is important that the spaces are fresh.

Which materials are the best according to the type of climate? For warm environments we suggest using porcelain tiles. On the other hand, in cold environments, facades or wood-effect laminates are better.

Check the walls before working on them. It is not only a matter of checking for fungus stains, any leakage or damage that is not repaired can damage the new coatings and cause structural failure.

Sinks, faucets and fixtures for kitchens, bathrooms and patios can be found cheaper at outlets. The advantage is that their designs can easily accommodate various types of interior design.

Can you choose any type of flooring? More than aesthetics, you should look at what kind of traffic they can withstand. Before making a purchase, know what the PEI Scale is.

How much does it cost to remodel a house? There is no exact answer because its value will depend on the materials and the spaces to be intervened. It will also depend on the time it will take and the hiring of specialized labor and professionals. That is why defining the budget from the beginning is so important.

Great! After reading all this information you are more than ready to give free rein to your creativity. Remember that a remodeling not only generates new sensations, it is also an opportunity to value the property. So even if you want to save, try to see it also as an investment for the future.✌️
